Russia's presidential spokesperson has condemned Britain for increasing its military aid to Ukraine.
Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that Britain's new supplies of weapons to Ukraine cannot have a fundamental effect on what Moscow is calling its "special military operation." But he added that it would lead to further destruction.
Peskov said Moscow's attitude toward Britain's move is "extremely negative." He said, "The United Kingdom is striving to occupy a leading place among the countries continuing to flood Ukraine with weapons."
Britain announced earlier this month that it is supplying Ukraine with long-range, high-precision cruise missiles. The Storm Shadow has a range of more than 250 kilometers. That's over three times the distance that the US-supplied HIMARS systems can target.
Russia says the Storm Shadow missiles were used in Ukrainian air raids in the Russian-held city of Luhansk in eastern Ukraine.
