Nearly one million travelers on international flights used the two major airports serving the Tokyo region during the recent spring holiday.
The numbers for Narita and Haneda airports were about 60 percent of pre-pandemic levels.
Preliminary data collected by Tokyo immigration officials show that more than 560,000 people departed or entered Japan via Narita during the 10-day period from April 28 to May 7.
The figure for Haneda was about 400,000.
Around 40 percent of the combined number of travelers were Japanese.
The United States topped the list of destinations at about 18 percent. It was followed by South Korea and Taiwan.
In 2019, more than one million people on international flights used Narita Airport during that year's 11-day spring holiday period. The number for Haneda was about 550,000.
