Elon Musk hires new CEO for Twitter

US business magnate Elon Musk says he has hired a new chief executive for social media platform Twitter.

Musk tweeted on Thursday, "Excited to announce that I've hired a new CEO for X/Twitter." He added that she will be starting in about 6 weeks, but did not say who she is.

He said his role will transition to being the company's executive chairman and chief technology officer, overseeing products, software and system operations.

Musk said last December that he would step down as Twitter's CEO as soon as he finds "someone foolish enough to take the job."

The announcement came after a majority of Twitter users asked him to resign in a poll he created. Musk promised to abide by the result.

A document presented to a court in California in April said the company Twitter no longer exists after it was merged into X Corp, which is owned by Musk.
