NATO wants to open office in Tokyo

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has revealed that the organization is in talks with the Japanese government to open a liaison office in Tokyo.

Stoltenberg said in an interview with CNN on Wednesday that Japan is a very close and important partner for NATO.

He also stressed that NATO needs to "step up" its partnership with its Indo-Pacific partners, with Russia and China in mind.

Stoltenberg did not provide details, such as when the office might be set up. But US media outlets say that it will be NATO's first office in Asia, if the plan materializes.
