Crane collapses onto moving train in central Taiwan, leaving 1 dead, 8 injured

A crane has collapsed onto a moving train in Taichung in central Taiwan, leaving one passenger dead and eight others injured.

Local authorities say the boom of a crane at a high-rise construction site fell onto an elevated railway track of the Taichung Metro around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

They say the injured people were taken to hospital.

Taiwanese broadcaster TVBS aired footage that captures the moment the crane collapsed from around the top of the building onto the track.

The broadcaster also showed footage of the inside of a train car damaged by the fall of the crane.

Taichung authorities are looking into the cause of the accident.
