Police in Tokyo have arrested a man on suspicion of stabbing a 13-year-old boy.
The junior high school student was stabbed in the chest on Wednesday in Ota Ward, central Tokyo. The boy was wearing a uniform and is believed to have been on his way to school.
Police say he was conscious when he was being rushed to hospital.
Police say a bloodstained knife was found near the scene of the incident. They have arrested 61-year-old Yamashita Yasunori, who was spotted near the site, on suspicion of inflicting injury.
The suspect is reportedly admitting to the charge.
The incident took place in a residential area about 400 meters west of Kamata Station. Several schools are nearby.
