North Korea says Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui has confirmed with China's new ambassador to Pyongyang that their position is to further develop the two countries' traditionally friendly relationship.
North Korea's ruling Workers' Party newspaper Rodong Sinmun has reported that Choe and Ambassador Wang Yajun, who assumed the post in March, met on Monday.
Tuesday's article said the meeting was held amid a harmonious atmosphere with both parties confirming the resolute stance.
North Korea's foreign ministry issued a statement on Monday to mark the fifth anniversary of the second meeting between leader Kim Jong Un and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
It said the countries will boldly overcome the difficulties they face with the strength of their ties, which are like blood relations.
North Korea appears to be stepping up ties with its main supporter, China, as Japan, the United States and South Korea are moving forward with tripartite cooperation in the security field.
Summit talks were held between the US and South Korea in April and between Japan and South Korea on Sunday.
