Pilot and Japanese tourist killed in light aircraft crash in Taiwan

A Taiwanese pilot and a Japanese tourist were killed when a light aircraft crashed in central Taiwan on Thursday.

Police and fire officials in Changhua County said the plane caught fire after crashing in a field near a river, and that two people onboard were killed.

Officials said the passenger was identified as 18-year-old Honda Eiki.

Local media said Honda was visiting Taiwan with his family and boarded the craft on an excursion. An eyewitness reportedly told media that the plane was trying to abort a landing attempt when it crashed.

The Taiwan Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.
