Japanese embassy officials in Paraguay say they received a report from police that the body of a Japanese national in his 60s had been found on Tuesday.
Local media outlets say the victim was 61-year-old Ueki Hirokazu. They say he was found lying on his back.
Ueki lived in an apartment in Asuncion. A janitor said Ueki usually walked to a nearby supermarket in the morning to do his shopping.
He is said to have no relatives in Paraguay.
Embassy officials have declined to comment as the case is under investigation.
