Russia's defense ministry says one of its submarines has successfully test-fired a cruise missile in the Sea of Japan.
The ministry announced on Friday that the diesel-powered Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky launched a Kalibr missile during an exercise.
A video released by the ministry shows the submarine left Vladivostok in the Far East and fired the missile in the sea.
The ministry says the missile hit the designated target in a training field more than 1,000 kilometers away.
The Russian military has used Kalibr missiles to attack infrastructure in Ukraine.
The latest drill is believed to have been intended as a warning to the United States and Japan, which are at odds with Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.
Russia is also wary that the US is boosting its military presence in the Asia-Pacific region.
