Japan's health ministry confirmed 14,846 new cases of the coronavirus across the country on Saturday.
It said there were 72 deaths nationwide.
The ministry also said 1,182 new infections were reported in Tokyo.
The figure is 36 greater than a week ago.
The daily tally marked the first week-on-week increase in six days.
Officials confirmed seven deaths in the capital.
