Biden dismisses China's proposal for peace talks on Ukraine

US President Joe Biden has dismissed China's proposal for peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.

In an interview with ABC News, aired on Friday, Biden said, "If Putin is applauding it, so how could it be good"?

He went on to say, "I've seen nothing in the plan that would indicate that there is something that would be beneficial to anyone other than Russia if the Chinese plan were followed."

Biden added, "The idea that China is going to be negotiating the outcome of a war that is a totally unjust war for Ukraine is just not rational."

Biden was asked about the possibility that China may provide lethal weapons to Russia. He responded that he doesn't anticipate a major initiative on the part of Beijing providing Moscow with weaponry.

He revealed that he warned Chinese President Xi Jinping last year that China could face the same consequences as Russia if it provided support to Russia.

Asked how the US would respond in the event that China provides military assistance to Russia, Biden referred to sanctions other countries have received after supporting Russia.
