G7, partners pledge more support to Ukrainian energy

Russian forces have been hammering Ukrainian power stations all winter. The G7 nations have pledged more support for the country's energy sector, so the heat doesn't run out.

Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken co-hosted the virtual meeting on Tuesday.

Hayashi says Japan has agreed to provide 300 generators to Ukraine, and may be sending more.

He also says his country will give more than 83,000 solar-powered lanterns to help Ukrainians when the lights go out.

Hayashi and the other top diplomats vowed to help Ukraine modernize its energy grid...while also reducing its carbon footprint.
