People enjoyed sightseeing in the ancient capital of Nara from a hot air balloon, getting a bird's-eye view of streets lined with old temples and other historical buildings.
A group of local hotels and accommodations organized the event, which began Saturday and will be held on weekends through February 5.
The balloon slowly rose to an altitude of about 25 meters. The passengers enjoyed viewing the scenery from way up high, including Yakushiji and Toshodaiji temples, which are UNESCO World Heritage sites.
A local woman said the familiar sights of her hometown looked even more wonderful from the sky.
