Wild boar injures woman in Niigata City

A wild boar ran into a passerby in an urban residential area in central Japan on Wednesday night. The woman fell and suffered minor injuries to her knees.

Police in Niigata City on the Sea of Japan coast say the animal remains at large. They are calling on residents to be cautious.

Police say the boar crashed into the woman in her 50s when she was walking near an intersection in the center of the Niigata prefectural capital around 10 p.m.

They say the animal was 60 to 80 centimeters long.

City employees patrolled the area on Thursday morning. Police cars are being deployed during commuting hours for elementary and junior high schools.
