Japanese journalist injured in New Year's Eve airstrikes in Ukraine

Moscow unleashed massive attacks across Ukraine on the eve of the New Year.

Missile strikes in the capital Kyiv left one person dead. Twenty others were injured, including a Japanese journalist.

Explosions were heard near a hotel in Kyiv housing NHK correspondents.

Local media say the airstrikes damaged several buildings, including a hotel and an educational facility.

The Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun says one of its journalists, Sekita Wataru, was injured outside the hotel where he is staying. He was treated for a leg injury at a local hospital.
