Myanmar military: 'Liking' opposition on Facebook could lead to prison

Myanmar's military warns that people who express support for the pro-democracy camp on social media could face a prison sentence of up to 10 years.

A spokesperson of the military's governing council told a news conference on Tuesday that people supporting groups that are hostile to the military could be prosecuted.

He said that sharing or "liking" Facebook content by the pro-democracy National Unity Government will be considered as an act of inciting the public.

He also suggested that the military will severely punish those who provide supplies to the resistance movement.

Fighting has been continuing between the military and opposition groups since the coup last year.

The pro-democracy camp is gaining support through social media. The military is believed to be trying to curb their momentum by tightening information control.
