Zelenskyy: Mass grave found in Izyum

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says a mass grave has been found in a liberated key stronghold city.

Zelenskyy said in an online video on Thursday that, "A mass burial site was found in Izyum, in the Kharkiv region."

He said, "Bucha, Mariupol, now, unfortunately, Izyum...Russia leaves death everywhere. And it must be held accountable for that."

Ukrainian troops are conducting counteroffensives in the eastern and southern parts of the country. Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine has liberated most of the eastern region of Kharkiv.

Zelenskyy met with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Kyiv on Thursday.

Ukraine's presidential office quotes Zelenskyy as saying at the meeting that Ukrainians are, "very positive and motivated by the daily de-occupation of certain towns and villages." He added that this was "a big victory."

Russia is still carrying out fierce attacks in the eastern regions of Luhansk and Donetsk.

Luhansk Governor Serhiy Haidai was cautious on Thursday saying, "The Kharkiv instant scenario will not be repeated. Our region will have to fight hard."

Donetsk Governor Pavlo Kyrylenko posted on social media the same day that apartment buildings and a hospital had come under attack in the Ukrainian stronghold of Bakhmut and other districts. He called on residents to evacuate.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said on Thursday that achieving the objectives of military operations is becoming more urgent every day.

Her remark apparently suggests Russia may intensify its attacks.
