Logistics firms have been ramping up automation in recent years to cope with surging e-commerce and a shortage of workers. Now, SoftBank Robotics is showcasing a warehouse that takes efficiency to the next level.
The facility has a modular design that means no space is wasted. Robotic "bins" navigate the grid and collect the items that have been ordered. The robots charge themselves and work without rest.
The system still needs human help, though. Workers wait at a fixed location to deal with the final shipping details. Their smart glasses tell them what is inside each box.
Sakata Dai, CPO of SoftBank Robotics says, "These latest robots can help improve efficiency and automation in warehouses. They can handle the work that used to be done only by conventional industrial robots."
