Standing ovation for Fukada Koji's 'Love Life' at Venice film festival

Up-and-coming Japanese director Fukada Koji's "Love Life" received a standing ovation at the Venice International Film Festival on Monday.

The film is in the running for the top Golden Lion award in the Competition category. The story questions the meaning of love and depicts the dynamics between the heroine, her husband, her son from a previous marriage, and her deaf ex-husband.

Kimura Fumino, who plays the lead role, and Sunada Atom, who plays the ex-husband, joined Fukada on the red carpet on Monday night.

Fukada said he was very happy to receive such applause and, now that the screening is over, he finally feels his work is complete.

The prize winners are scheduled to be announced on Saturday.
