One dead, three injured in school bus collision near Tokyo

A high school bus and a mini-vehicle collided in Ibaraki Prefecture, northeast of Tokyo, on Monday morning, leaving one dead and injuring three.

Police say the collision occurred on a prefectural road in the city of Sakuragawa. The two vehicles were running on opposite lanes.

Police say the driver of the mini-vehicle was rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

Three high school students were injured in the accident and were taken to the hospital. Police and firefighters say they were conscious, and that their injuries were not serious.

The bus was operated by Iwase Nihon University High School. It was carrying more than 15 people, including the driver.

Police are looking into the cause of the accident. They say the road has one lane on each side and the collision occurred on a straight section.
