Luhansk governor: Ukrainian troops will withdraw from Severodonetsk

The governor of Luhansk says Ukrainian forces will have to retreat from Severodonetsk.

The city has been the site of fierce fighting as invading Russian forces seek control over eastern Ukraine.

Governor Serhiy Haidai told local media on Friday that troops in Severodonetsk have received orders to fall back to new positions.

Haidai criticized Russian troops for attacking the city almost every day over the past months, destroying key infrastructure and damaging 90 percent of the city. He said 80 percent of the houses need to be rebuilt.

The governor said Russian units are also advancing to Lysychansk, a neighboring city across a river.
