Ukrainian forces: Success in attacking Russian-held Snake Island in Black Sea

Ukrainian forces say they have caused significant losses to Russian positions on Snake Island in the Black Sea.

The island off the coast of the southern Ukrainian region of Odesa was seized by Russian forces in February as a key stronghold in their offensive.

The Ukrainian military said on social media on Tuesday that it had launched attacks using various forces on the island.

US satellite operator Maxar Technologies on Wednesday publicized satellite images of Snake Island taken on Friday last week and Tuesday this week.

The pictures taken on Tuesday show what look like charred parts of ground in the island's northern, middle and southern areas.
These charred parts were not visible on Friday's images, indicating that Ukrainian forces probably launched the attacks between Friday and Tuesday.
