US President Joe Biden has expressed his intention to speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Biden responded affirmatively when he was asked by reporters on Saturday in Delaware if he has a plan to have talks with Xi in the near future.
He was also asked whether he would review tariffs that his predecessor, Donald Trump, imposed on China. Biden responded that he was in the process of making up his mind.
Even while relations between the US and China are strained, officials from both sides have shared the need for continued dialogue.
US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan met with China's top diplomat Yang Jiechi in Luxembourg on Monday. They traded barbs over the Taiwan issue but agreed to continued talks to avoid unintended conflicts.
If Biden holds talks with Xi, they would be the first since their online talks in March.
