US President Joe Biden says his country and its European partners are planning to help export grains stuck in Ukraine via rail.
Wheat and other grains are major export items of Ukraine, but they have been halted since Russia invaded the country and blockaded its ports.
In a speech on Tuesday, Biden unveiled the plan, aimed at helping bring down grain prices on the global market.
He explained that because the rail gauges in Ukraine are different from those used by its European neighbors, temporary silos will be built on the borders of Ukraine, including in Poland. He said the grain can be transferred from Ukrainian cars into those silos, then into cars in Europe, after which it will be sent across the world via the ocean.
