US President Joe Biden is set to travel to Saudi Arabia and Israel next month.
The White House on Tuesday announced the trip scheduled for July 13 to 16. Biden also plans to visit the Palestinian territory in the West Bank.
The US president apparently wants to urge Saudi Arabia, one of the world's leading producers of crude oil, to increase output to ease the global surge in crude oil prices. The hike is blamed on Russia's invasion of Ukraine and other factors.
US-Saudi relations have cooled since the Biden administration last year released a report saying Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman approved a plan to kill a Saudi journalist in Turkey in 2018.
Biden is scheduled to meet the crown prince during his visit.
A senior US administration official explained that although Biden's stance on human rights has not changed, he would be willing to meet certain leaders to get results.
