Biden urges Congress to take action on gun control

US President Joe Biden has urged Congress to strengthen gun control, in an address to the nation following recent fatal shootings.

Biden said, "How many more innocent American lives must be taken before we say enough'? Enough." in the speech at the White House on Thursday. He added, "This time we have to take the time to do something."

Biden called for a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. He said that if lawmakers cannot agree to ban such weapons, the age to purchase them should be raised from 18 to 21. He also called for stricter background checks for gun purchases.

A bill for tougher gun control has been submitted to Congress by the Democratic Party, but faces opposition from Republicans.

On May 24, a shooter killed 21 people at an elementary school in Texas. On Wednesday, four people were killed in a shooting at a medical building in Oklahoma.
