Tokyo reports 27 new cases of coronavirus

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government reported 27 new cases of the coronavirus in the Japanese capital on Thursday. The number is up seven from a week earlier.

The daily tally in Tokyo has remained below 50 for 40 days in a row, and has been under 30 for 14 straight days.

The seven-day average through Thursday stands at 15.3, or 78.1 percent of the figure for the previous week.

Officials say eight patients are in serious condition, unchanged from Wednesday.

No deaths from the coronavirus were reported in the capital on Thursday.
