White House: 92% of federal workers vaccinated

The Biden administration says 92 percent of more than 3.5 million US federal workers have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, in compliance with its mandate.

In September, President Joe Biden issued an executive order requiring vaccination for federal employees.

The White House on Wednesday released data on the implementation of the requirement. Including medical or religious exemptions, 96.5 percent of all federal employees are in compliance.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the figures show that the vaccine mandate works and that the administration will continue to encourage more workers to be vaccinated.

The Biden administration has also required companies with 100 or more employees to ensure their workers are fully vaccinated by January 4, or undergo weekly testing.

More than half of all US states have filed legal challenges against the mandate, arguing that the rule is unconstitutional.

A US appeals court has temporarily halted the Biden administration's vaccine mandate for businesses.
