One of Britain's top music awards is scrapping its male and female prize categories, in line with a growing trend toward gender neutrality.
Organizers of the BRIT Awards said on Monday that they are launching the new non-gendered artist of the year prizes in 2022.
Some artists had requested the change, saying the current honors exclude those who do not identify with either gender.
BRIT Chair Tom March said, "It is important that The BRITs continue to evolve and aim to be as inclusive as possible."
He said it was the right time to celebrate the achievements of artists, irrespective of gender.
The Berlin International Film Festival has also replaced its Best Actor and Best Actress awards with gender-neutral prizes.
