Tokyo reports 20 new COVID cases on Thursday

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government confirmed 20 new cases of the coronavirus in the capital on Thursday.

The daily number of new infections has remained below 50 for the 33rd straight day, and was less than 30 for the seventh day in a row. The figure decreased by 11 from a week earlier.

The seven-day average through Thursday was 19.6. That's 76.6 percent of the figure for the previous week.

Tokyo officials say 10 patients are seriously ill -- the same number as on Wednesday.

The officials reported one death from the coronavirus, bringing the total confirmed in the capital to 3,161.
