The reelected president of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, says his country will provide all possible assistance to neighboring Afghanistan.
Mirziyoyev made the remark during his inauguration speech on Saturday. He was elected president for a second term in the October 24 election, with more than 80 percent of the vote.
The president called Afghanistan a neighbor and an important part of the region. He indicated his country will continue to support Afghanistan in every way to help it restore peace and stability and avoid an economic and humanitarian crisis.
As Afghanistan's security situation remains unstable, it is a challenge for Mirziyoyev to maintain regional stability. Uzbekistan is faced with a possible influx of Islamic extremists and drugs.
