Mitsubishi Electric suspends fridge production

Increasing coronavirus infections in Southeast Asia have already forced Japanese automakers to cut output as their supply of parts was affected. Now the same problem is affecting electronics manufacturers.

Mitsubishi Electric has stopped making home-use refrigerators until October 25.

The production line is at its plant in Shizuoka Prefecture, central Japan, but the decision was prompted by the coronavirus situation in Southeast Asia which forced parts factories in the region to halt operations.

Mitsubishi Electric says it hopes to make up the shortfall in fridge production after resuming output.

Japanese automakers, Toyota and Honda have been cutting their production partly due to the spread of infections in Southeast Asia.
