Just after the Nobel Peace Prize announcement, Maria Ressa spoke to the online news site Rappler that she runs as CEO. She stressed that the prize was awarded to the whole Rappler team.
Ressa said, "We are fighting for facts. And when we live in a world where facts are debatable, when the world's largest distributor of news prioritizes the spread of lies, laced with anger and hate and spreads it faster and further than facts, then journalism becomes activism. Rappler noted that this is the first Nobel Prize to go to a Filipino. The news site has been a tough critic of President Rodrigo Duterte.
