Honda Motor is bringing car sales from showroom floors to smartphone screens. The company has launched a website that allows customers to lease a car online amid growing demand during the pandemic.
Honda's new service went live on Monday, making it the first Japanese automaker to enter the online market.
Customers can choose from among four popular models.
They then go in to dealerships to collect the vehicles.
The service is currently limited to leases, but the company will eventually allow customers to make cash and loan-based purchases.
Honda hopes that online sales will also appeal to young people who do much of their shopping on smartphones.
Online sales will initially be available to people who live in Tokyo. Honda plans to gradually roll out the service to other areas.
