The number of daily cases of the coronavirus in Tokyo has fallen under 100 for the first time this year.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government confirmed 87 new cases on Monday. The figure is down 67 from a week ago.
The daily tally last dropped under 100 on November 2, 2020 -- about 11 months ago.
Tokyo officials also say six people infected with the virus died on Monday, bringing total number of deaths in the capital to 2,960.
Seventy-seven people were seriously ill as of Monday, down 11 from the previous day.
The seven-day average through Monday is 196.7. That's 57.6 percent of the average of the previous seven-day period.
