The leader of Japan's primary opposition party says the new executive lineup for the main ruling Liberal Democratic Party proves the party is incapable of change.
The head of the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, Edano Yukio, spoke at a news conference on Friday. He said that the appointments show the LDP "will not and cannot change."
New LDP leader Kishida Fumio, who is virtually assured of becoming Prime Minister next week, announced the lineup on Friday.
Opposition parties say the appointments prioritize the interests of key LDP members such as former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo, and factions.
Edano also announced his party's new energy policy for the upcoming Lower House election. The policy says that by 2050, Japan should be powered entirely by renewable energy.
