Motegi likely to remain as foreign minister

NHK has learned that Japan's Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu will remain in his post in a new Cabinet expected to be formed next week.

Kishida Fumio, the Liberal Democratic Party's new leader, is virtually assured of being named prime minister on Monday due to the ruling coalition's control of both Diet chambers. His new Cabinet lineup will likely be announced later that day.

Motegi has advanced Japan's policy of realizing a free and open Indo-Pacific since becoming the country's top diplomat in 2019.
