N.Korea: Anti-aircraft missile test-fired

A North Korean newspaper says the country test-fired a newly developed anti-aircraft missile on Thursday.

The ruling Workers' Party newspaper Rodong Sinmun said the Academy of National Defense Science carried out the test to verify the accuracy of the guidance systems and confirm the extended missile range.

The report also said that a senior party official, Pak Jong Chon, who is a close aide to leader Kim Jong Un, observed the launch.

Observers say Pyongyang appears to have carried out the test to demonstrate its stance to press ahead with missile development.
