White House to continue Kabul strike probe

The White House says a drone strike last month that killed 10 civilians in Afghanistan was a tragedy and a thorough investigation will continue.

US Press Secretary Jen Psaki spoke to reporters on Monday about the attack in Kabul, which the military has admitted was an error.

She said President Joe Biden's reaction is it's a tragedy, and every loss is a tragedy. Psaki also said Biden supports "the effort to move this forward as quickly as possible and to have a thorough investigation."

When asked whether anyone would be held accountable, Psaki said, "It's also important to note what the circumstances were" when the strike took place.
She said there were direct threats against US troops on the ground and she will not predict what the impact will be.

The US military says it believed it was targeting an Islamist extremist in the attack on August 29, which killed 10 civilians including seven children.
