Putin self-isolates after staffers get COVID

Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that he has to self-isolate because several of his staff members are infected with the coronavirus.

Putin said in a videoconference on Tuesday that one of the staffers worked close to him and conversed with him throughout the day on Monday.

The Kremlin said that the president has tested negative and is healthy. The Kremlin previously stated that Putin was vaccinated with a Russian-made vaccine.

Putin has however canceled his trip to Tajikistan. He was scheduled to attend a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation there later this week. He will participate in the conference via a video link instead. The president will discuss Afghanistan and additional issues with the leaders of China and the other member countries.

Russia has struggled to contain the spread of the coronavirus. The country has recently been reporting about 18,000 new cases every day.
