Shogi prodigy Fujii Sota has become the youngest player ever to clinch three major professional titles for the Japanese board game, similar to chess.
Fujii marked the milestone at the age of 19 years and one month, breaking the record for the first time in 28 years. The previous record holder was Habu Yoshiharu, who achieved the feat at the age of 22 years and three months.
Fujii defeated the current Eio champion, Toyoshima Masayuki, in the final match of the best-of-five title series in Tokyo on Monday.
The teenage shogi sensation is set to challenge Toyoshima again for the Ryuo title match, which will take place in October.
If he wins, he will become the youngest to win four major titles, the most among current players.
