Japan's Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide is considering a visit to the United States later this month to attend a four-way summit with the leaders of the US, Australia and India.
US President Joe Biden is planning to host the summit of the Quad alliance. The topics for discussion will include a free and open Indo-Pacific and the coronavirus.
Suga told executives of the main ruling Liberal Democratic Party last week that he will not run in the LDP's upcoming leadership race.
This means he is giving up the premiership, and Japan will soon have a new prime minister. Suga's term will expire at the end of this month.
