Japan set to extend state of emergency

NHK has learned that Japan's government is set to extend the coronavirus state of emergency through September 30 for 19 prefectures, including Tokyo and Osaka.

The move comes ahead of the September 12 expiration of the state of emergency for 21 prefectures and quasi-emergency measures for 12 other prefectures.

The government is also set to replace the state of emergency in Miyagi and Okayama prefectures with quasi-emergency measures.
