Taliban fire warning shots at protesters

Taliban fighters in the Afghan capital of Kabul have fired warning shots to disperse people protesting against neighboring Pakistan for backing the group.

The demonstration took place near the Pakistani Embassy on Tuesday. Many protesters, including women, shouted that Pakistan has been interfering in Afghanistan's affairs.

Taliban gunmen on guard there started firing in the air. The protesters dispersed, with some going into hiding. No injuries have been reported.

Pakistan has long backed the Taliban. A senior Taliban official criticized those who oppose the group, adding that the demonstration was staged to throw Kabul into chaos.

The Taliban on Monday claimed to have taken control of the last holdout of opposition forces as the group moves to launch a new national government. But opposition forces expressed their determination to continue fighting.
