A building collapsed in the Indian city of Mumbai, killing at least 12 people, including eight children. Seven others were injured when a three-story residential building collapsed amid heavy rain on Wednesday.
Eyewitnesses say the second and third floors of the structure collapsed onto an adjoining single-story house.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief at the loss of lives and announced compensation for the families of the deceased.
Local authorities say the building was constructed illegally and also had been damaged by a recent cyclone.
Building collapses are common in India, especially during the monsoon season. Poor construction and a disregard of regulations are blamed.
