G7 summit to open soon in Cornwall, England

The Group of Seven summit is set to open soon in Cornwall, southwestern Britain, on Friday afternoon.

The G7 leaders are meeting in person for the first time in two years due to the coronavirus pandemic.

US President Joe Biden arrived in Britain on Wednesday. Other leaders, including Japanese Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide, arrived on Thursday and Friday.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will greet them at the summit venue.

The leaders are expected to discuss measures to end the pandemic.

British officials said the G7 leaders are likely to agree to provide the world with at least 1 billion doses of coronavirus vaccines, as part of efforts to contain the pandemic by the end of next year.

Climate change, the global economy and how to deal with China are also expected to be key topics.
