US media reports say President Joe Biden is expected to announce at the upcoming Group of Seven summit that his country is set to donate 500 million doses of coronavirus vaccines to nearly 100 countries.
The reports said on Wednesday that Biden will make the announcement at the G7 summit which starts in Cornwall, England, on Friday.
White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan told reporters that Biden will announce vaccine donations and urge other countries to cooperate with the effort.
Biden spoke to US military personnel stationed at a British air base on Wednesday.
He stressed the need for the US and its allies to counter China and Russia, which have been vigorously donating vaccines abroad.
He said, "To tackle this century's most pressing challenges, we have to do it together. We have to end COVID-19, not just at home but everywhere."
