Japanese sprinter Yamagata Ryota set a new national record in the men's 100-meter dash on Sunday.
Yamagata ran 9.95 seconds in the final of a competition in Tottori City, western Japan.
He accelerated smoothly from the start and led from the middle of the race to finish first.
There was a tailwind of 2 meters per second.
Yamagata broke the previous record set in 2019 by Abdul Hakim Sani Brown at a meet in the United States by 0.02 seconds.
Yamagata is the fourth Japanese sprinter to break the 10-second barrier.
