US jobs numbers point to recovery

The latest report from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics has provided more evidence of an economic recovery. The economy added 559,000 jobs last month.

Notable gains occurred in the leisure and hospitality sector, in public and private education, and in health care and social assistance. The unemployment rate fell to 5.8 percent.

President Joe Biden said the gains are due, in part, to his administration's vaccination program and his economic stimulus package.

Economists had expected the increase in jobs to be even higher. They are concerned about the millions of Americans who have dropped out of the workforce.
